Real Questions We Hear Every Week
We're three years behind on our books. Is it too late to fix?
No, and you're not the only one who's waited this long to call.
Most of the owners I work with tell me they felt embarrassed about how far behind things got, and that embarrassment is exactly what kept them from picking up the phone sooner.
I specialize in catch-up bookkeeping for businesses that are months, or even years, behind on reconciliation. With over 15 years of hands-on experience and In-House CPA Support behind me, I reconstruct and reconcile your financials no matter how far behind they've fallen.
There's no judgment here. The only real risk is waiting longer, because every month that passes makes the fix more expensive.
My office manager has been handling the books and now nothing adds up. What does fixing that actually involve?
It means going back to the source and finding out what's actually true, not what someone assumed was true.
I see this constantly, a family member or an employee wearing too many hats ends up managing the books along with everything else, and nobody's really watching until a bank asks for financials or a tax notice shows up and the numbers don't hold up.
I reconcile every bank and credit card transaction against your records, correct or rebuild your chart of accounts, and produce accurate, tax-ready financial statements for every period that was missed.
You stop finding out about problems after they've already cost you something.
Are you only for bigger businesses, or do you work with companies my size?
I work with established businesses earning $500K to $75M plus in annual revenue.
That covers a lot of ground, from a single owner running lean to a company managing multiple entities. What I hear most from owners in this range is that they're tired of being treated like a number by big, impersonal firms, or bounced between people who don't know their business.
You work directly with me.
We don't use QuickBooks. Can you still work with our books?
Yes. I work in every version of QuickBooks, plus:
- Xero
- Sage
- Sage Intacct
- Zoho Books
- Odoo
- Wave
- FreshBooks
- Crunch
- FreeAgent
- Buildium
- Unanet
I've had owners come to me after another provider told them their software wasn't supported or wasn't worth the trouble. That's not how I work.
If your books are on something outside that list, I bring them current and get you where you need to be.
I'm not in Maryland. Does that matter?
No. I'm based in the DC area, specifically College Park, Maryland, and I work virtually with clients across Maryland, Virginia, DC, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, plus nationwide, all by phone and secure remote access.
I know a lot of owners are wary of outsourcing to someone far away, worried they'll end up talking to a call center or a different person every time they call. That's not what happens here.
You get me.
Our bookkeeper only reconciles once a year. Is that a problem?
Yes, and it's a bigger problem than most owners realize until it catches up with them.
Once a year means you're running your business for eleven months on numbers nobody has verified, and the surprises usually surface at the worst possible time, right before taxes are due, right when a bank asks for financials, right when you need to trust your own numbers and can't.
I reconcile monthly and review your financials with you personally, so nothing sits hidden for eleven months waiting to blow up.
My CPA says my books are a mess. Should I be worried?
Yes, and I'd rather tell you that straight than have you find out the hard way.
Inconsistent or unreconciled books raise red flags with the IRS, increase your audit risk, and make it much harder to defend your numbers if you're ever questioned. I've worked with owners who didn't trust their own numbers anymore, who were losing sleep over what might be hiding in their books, comingled accounts, unreconciled years, transactions nobody can explain.
I reconcile monthly and keep your financials tax ready so you're never caught flat-footed again.
My reports don't make sense to me. What should I actually be getting every month?
At minimum, a P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statement every month, and you should actually understand what you're looking at.
I hear from owners constantly that their last accountant never explained anything, handed over a report full of numbers and left them to figure it out alone. I deliver fully customized reporting on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, plus budgets and forecasts, and I sit down and review all of it with you personally.
If your reports don't make sense today, they won't magically make sense at tax time. The sooner they're corrected, the less they cost to fix.
Our office manager handles payroll and invoicing too. Can you take all of that over, not just reconciliation?
Yes. Reconciliation is the foundation, but I also handle payroll management, accounts payable, collecting your past due receivables, chart of accounts setup, and year end 1099 and W-2 reporting.
I've had owners tell me they were bringing the business home with them every night, still thinking about invoices and payroll at the dinner table because one overwhelmed person was juggling all of it.
Handing the whole financial picture to one team means you stop carrying that weight home.
We're a government contractor. Does regular bookkeeping even work for us?
No, not on its own. Standard bookkeeping isn't built to meet DCAA requirements, and I've talked to contractors who found that out the hard way, mid-audit, with an accountant who didn't understand DCAA and books that hadn't been reconciled monthly.
I'm an approved federal government contractor myself, DUNS #079524284, and a registered Maryland accounting provider, NAICS #541219, so I set your books up to meet those standards from the start.
I'll be the one in the room if an audit ever comes.
What actually happens when I call you?
I ask where your books currently stand, what accounting software you're using, and the last time they were reconciled.
I hear from a lot of owners who've called firm after firm and nobody calls them back, or they end up explaining their whole situation to a new person every time because their current provider has constant turnover. That's not what this call is.
You get a straightforward plan to bring your financials current, no judgment about how far behind things got, and you'll actually hear back from me.
